Welcome to the class page for PSY 4010: Diversity in the Workplace!

This course will provide a foundation for understanding diversity and inclusion in the workplace as well as the implications of working in a diverse organizational environment. We will examine a range of dimensions of diversity within the context of the workplace including age, gender, race/ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and physical and mental ability. We will also consider best practices for managing a diverse workforce.

Course Materials:

  1. Textbook: Managing Diversity in the Workplace
  2. A selection of articles and videos will be embedded into their respective week.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss both potential advantages and challenges of a diverse workforce.
  2. Describe major psychological concepts and theories related to diversity and inclusion in organizations.
  3. Think critically about historical and contemporary issues relevant to the employment experiences of various groups in the workplace (e.g., groups that differ in gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and/or age).
  4. Construct coherent written assignments and oral presentations based on a review of the pertinent scholarly literature.
  5. Demonstrate project management and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in professional settings.
  6. Understand fairness, ethical, and legal issues that arise in diverse workplaces and propose specific recommendations to increase equality and inclusion for all individuals.
