
Welcome to the class page for PSY 4010: Diversity in the Workplace!
This course will provide a foundation for understanding diversity and inclusion in the workplace as well as the implications of working in a diverse organizational environment. We will examine a range of dimensions of diversity within the context of the workplace including age, gender, race/ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and physical and mental ability. We will also consider best practices for managing a diverse workforce.

- A selection of articles and videos will be embedded into their respective week.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss both potential advantages and challenges of a diverse workforce.
- Describe major psychological concepts and theories related to diversity and inclusion in organizations.
- Think critically about historical and contemporary issues relevant to the employment experiences of various groups in the workplace (e.g., groups that differ in gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and/or age).
- Construct coherent written assignments and oral presentations based on a review of the pertinent scholarly literature.
- Demonstrate project management and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in professional settings.
- Understand fairness, ethical, and legal issues that arise in diverse workplaces and propose specific recommendations to increase equality and inclusion for all individuals.
